Intensive Classes
English for Parents
Online or in-person (NYC)
We provide free English classes in person, hybrid, or fully online for parents, grandparents, and caregivers of young children. Our curriculum focuses on health literacy and everyday language to support parents in advocating for the needs of their families. During online sessions, students have the opportunity to engage in small group conversation practice with a native English-speaking partner to build their confidence.
Each student receives 5 age-appropriate books to read with their children in the fall and once again in the spring.
To learn more or sign up for this class, please email Giovanna Gouvea at giovannag@literacypartners.org.
Morning or early afternoon classes, 6 hours per week. We conduct intake and orientation for new students in the fall, winter, and spring. Classes run from September to June.

- Enrollment is open year-round based on seat availability.
- The program provides a welcoming and supportive environment where adults can build their literacy skills at their own pace.
Reading for Adults
Online or in-person (NYC)
Reading for Adults (RFA) focuses on building foundational literacy and reading skills in English to help adults 18 and older achieve their personal and educational reading goals. The program offers educational guidance to help participants advance in both life and learning.
Reading for Adults empowers students by creating a safe, supportive learning environment with instructor-led sessions and one-on-one tutoring to reinforce skills and boost confidence.
Free books for participants and/or their children to build a home library.

I learned how to read effectively to my daughters so that they would become interested in reading. The workshop allowed me to see that in reading, it is important to incorporate sounds, body movements, and physical play. This helps children in their emotional and intellectual development.

Community Workshops
Workshops for English Speakers
Online or in-person (NYC)
The Science of Reading parent workshop equips parents and caregivers of elementary school children with practical tools to support reading development at home. Through five interactive sessions, parents explore the five pillars of the Science of Reading – phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension – along with advocacy strategies to foster academic growth.
This workshop empowers parents to create nurturing, literacy-rich environments, strengthen their child’s reading skills, and actively engage in their child’s educational journey.
Parents who complete the full workshop series receive five free books mailed to their homes to build their at-home library.
To learn more or sign up for this class, please email Rosa Loza at rosal@literacypartners.org.
Each workshop consists of five sessions (90 minutes each). We currently offer monthly English workshops online on the following dates:
- April 2, 4, 7,9,11
- May 7, 9, 12, 14, 16
This workshop is open to parents and caregivers of children ages 4-9 who are interested in learning evidence-based strategies to support their child’s reading success. No prior experience or background in education is needed to participate.
Workshops for Spanish Speakers
Online or in-person (upon request from our partners)
We hold two series of workshops for Spanish speakers: our Family Engagement Workshops (FEW) and our Leyendo en Casa workshops.
Our Family Engagement Workshops consist of five 90-minute virtual sessions empowering parents to promote literacy and science-rich activities with their families. Parents will discuss ways to create everyday learning moments and connections with family-friendly activities like using digital storytelling to support early learning.
Our Leyendo en Casa Workshops are one-hour online sessions where parents watch videos from our Emmy Award-winning educational telenovela La Fuerza de Creer, discuss with parent leaders how to inspire a love for reading and science at home, and connect with other parents to explore how home culture can bring books to life.
Students will receive five books for the five-session Family Engagement Workshops and one book for each Leyendo en Casa session completed.

Focuses on the importance of being your best self so when it comes to all other avenues of life, you’re always bringing the best representation of yourself.”
